  As with all cemeteries, this one is peaceful. Really peaceful. You can buy a map with additional info for a mere 1 euro, and it will guide you to see the most important or impressive tombstones. The ivory that has covered everything in sight gives it a spooky, yet bohemian appearance. Feel free to stroll along the unmarked paths and read the tomb stones of people long gone.

  Nový židovský hřbitov na Olšanech (byl založen v roce 1889) tvoří samostatnou část komplexu Olšanských hřbitovů v Praze na Žižkově. S plochou 101 430 m2 a počtem náhrobků má primát největšího židovského hřbitova v České republice. Od roku 1958 je chráněn jako kulturní památka České republiky. Od svého založení až dodnes slouží jako hlavní pražský židovský hřbitov. Na hřbitově se nacházejí dvě obřadní síně. Původní novorenesanční síň stojí na nejvyšším místě hřbitova při hlavním vstupu do areálu podle návrhu architektů Bedřicha Münzbergera a Alfonse Wertmilera, a byla postavena v letech 1891–1893. Za ní se nachází takzvaný dům očisty bejt tahara a márnice v klasicistním stylu (viz foto). V areálu hřbitova se dochovalo asi 25 000 náhrobků a památníků a symbolických hrobů obětí holokaustu. Kromě asi nejznámějšího hrobu spisovatele Franze Kafky tu najdeme i náhrobky rodin Waldesů, Petschků, či Jiřího Ortena a Oty Pavla. The new Jewish cemetery in Olšany (founded in 1889) forms a separate part of the Olšanské cemetery complex in Prague, Žižkov. With an area of ​​101,430 m2 and the number of tombstones, it has the primacy of the largest Jewish cemetery in the Czech Republic. Since 1958 it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Since its founding until today it serves as the main Prague Jewish cemetery. There are two ceremonial halls in the cemetery. The original Neo-Renaissance Hall stands at the highest point of the cemetery at the main entrance, designed by architects Bedrich Münzberger and Alfonse Wertmler, and built between 1891 and 1893. Behind it is a so-called house of purgatory and a morgue in classicist style (see photo). About 25,000 tombstones and memorials and symbolic graves of Holocaust victims have been preserved in the grounds of the cemetery. Along with the most famous grave of the writer Franz Kafka, you can find the tombstones of the Waldes, Petschka´s families, or Jiří Orten and Ota Pavel´s graves.

  Ein beeindruckender Ort der der die Brüche jüdischen Lebens nur zu deutlich macht. Gedenktafeln von Familien und Künstlern an der Friedhofsmauer zeugen davon. Zwischen alten, von Efeu überwachsenen Gräbern lässt es sich besonders an warmen Sommertagen innehalten und nachdenken. Der Weg zum Grab Franz Kafkas ist gut ausgeschildert, jedoch läuft man am letzten Hinweisschild leicht vorbei da es verdreht ist.

  Nice calm park like cemetery with Kafka's grave. Lots of examples of different grave styles. Currently in use.
